Livestock : Soft Corals
Captive raised soft corals are now becoming widely available from many acquaculture facilities. They include leather corals, mushroom anemones, zoanthids, gorgonians and xenia. Reef Encounters cultures a selection of xenia and leather corals with additional species planned for the future. The soft corals are propagated in a separate system from the SPS and LPS. While soft and hard corals can be maintained in the same system we find it advantageous for aquaculture purposes to raise them separately. Reduced protein skimming and lower lighting levels suit the growth of our soft corals. Regular water changes and otherwise stable water conditions still benefit the health of soft corals but they are undoubtedly easier to keep than their hard coral brethren. Soft Coral Species:
